I started working with Roy in May of last year. I was new to training and my confidence was at an all-time low in many areas of life. I was constantly bingeing on food, restricting myself from spending hours in the gym.

Completing the 8 Weeks to Lean course with Roy not only gave my confidence a boost, but made me fall in love with the gym lifestyle and the new knowledge I was gaining. So after the course, I signed up as an online client.

After going to the gym and ‘eating healthy’ for a year, I wasn’t seeing anything really happen to my body. I then fell back into bad eating habits very fast due to feeling hungry and making poor food choices. I finally admitted I needed someone else to help and guide me.

After following Roy on Instagram for a while, I noticed his clients had great success and progress, reflecting that he knew what he was doing. The fact you are always straight to the point and very positive is just the kind of person that I need to help me!

I have learnt so much over the last eight weeks; managing my calorie intake to ensure I’m in a calorie deficit to lose fat/weight. I learnt that it’s more of a lifestyle than a diet. If I enjoy the food I put in my mouth, I appreciate it and feel fuller for longer, thus reducing the big bad snacking habit.

I don’t have to cut out any of my favourite foods, I just have to eat them in moderation. I now have a Chinese takeaway monthly rather than weekly and it tastes so much better.

My favourite thing about the plan is that I’ve managed to cut down my cardio work, which is helping the pain in my back and knees. A five-minute warm-up on the rowing machine, 15-minute incline walk and a swim on a Friday is all I do now! Yay!

I joined Roy back in September 2015 when I felt I was at the point where I required close week-to-week guidance on my training. I’d steadily been losing weight for some time beforehand but it ground to a bit of a halt despite still training really hard on a regular basis.

I felt a bit lost and really needed some close nutritional guidance and a varied structured training plan that would keep things fresh for me. I’m the type of person who gets bored easily, so I need my training to be varied, otherwise I just give up.

Training with Roy has been a pleasure. His level of detail into the aspects of eating and training he takes the time to study is great. We discussed things both on the phone and at the gym with regards to how I was training before and how I could train moving forward. Gradually the weight started shifting again and I didn’t seem to be having to push myself as hard at the gym as I was before. The results were great.

One of the biggest benefits I found working with Roy was how my strength changed. Although I was losing weight, my strength seemed to take a drastic spike. I was comfortably lifting more than before which was a confidence booster and made me enjoy my training even more!

Overall the two biggest things I’ve learned from Roy is that I can now manage my eating properly. I’m confident on what I eat on a daily basis and I now know when I’m eating too much. I feel I have the confidence to structure and vary my training plan myself.

At the moment the goal is to still trim down on some fat, however the time will come where I want to bulk up a bit. When that time comes I’ll certainly be going back to Roy for guidance.

I’m not going to lie: I’ve had other personal trainers before, and had some success with them for the first few weeks at least. But then something always went wrong, making me lose my way with no getting me back on track.

I have been very small in the past and have, deep down, always hankered to get back there, without ever acknowledging how unhealthy I actually was. I had seen Roy in the gym and (along with others!) never dared approach him, however there is something about someone that can obviously keep themselves in awesome shape that makes you think they know what they are doing.

I subscribed to his emails and on one particularly down day pressed respond on the email that had come through. Straight away I thought, ‘Oh Lord, what have I done now?!’ but my wedding was coming up and quite frankly something had to be done.

I was incredibly disillusioned with my training, my diet and had completely lost my way with how to get myself forward to where I wanted to be. After the initial call with Roy I knew that there was no going back.

This man appeared to not only know what he was talking about but actually also appeared to care about getting me there in a way that would be personal to me.

And I wasn’t wrong. I have never felt as beautiful and special as I did at the wedding and Roy had a massive part to play in that. I am not saying it was and subsequently is easy. I train a lot and I watch my food a lot, but in Roy I have met someone that tries hard to get me and where my head is at.

I genuinely think he actually invests too much in his clients, but as a client I am not complaining! I have a long way to go but for the first time in forever I am more concerned with having a healthy outlook and confidence in my body than how tiny the figures on the scales are.

Without Roy there is not a chance I would be where I am in my journey. Because that’s what it is, a journey – not an “eight weeks to get ripped” plan that just isn’t sustainable and dumps you in it when you’re finished and feel like you don’t know where to go next.

So thank you Roy, here is to the next part of the journey.
